Inspiration - Linear Perspetive

In Room 14 we are studying inspiration. At the moment we have been doing lots of art including Linear Perspective. Here is a picture of my 2 point perspective art. Here are a couple of things about Linear Perspective art. The first step to linear perspective is to draw a line across your page. This is called a horizon line. Then you have to draw your vanishing dot on the horizon line. You have to draw two vanishing dots if you are drawing 2 perspective art. Objects look smaller as they get closer to the vanishing point ( it looks like they are vanishing into the distance.) . Most artists use one perspective art to draw long hallways or a train tracks.

These are a couple of pictures of my buddy group creating our buddy for Buddy Day. For those of you that don't know what Buddy Day it is a day when adults take care of children for a while to remember how important their everyday job is - preventing child abuse. Buddy Day is on the 14th of November and everyone, everywhere can take part in it. My buddy groups buddy is called Iyla. She is from Tepic in Mexico. We got the inspiration for her from how strong the Mexican tradition is. I can't wait till Buddy Day!

Class Speeches

This is a picture of me saying my speech to the class. I chose to do my speech on my grandma, Ma. I chose her because to me she shows excellence. She shows excellence because she has Parkinson's Disease, but she hasn't let it stop her from doing anything. The reason I am most proud of my speech is when I said my speech again to my Ma she was proud which made me proud.

Cross Country

Last week on Friday it was the senior syndicate Cross Country. Because I am a 10 year old girl I had to run 2 km at Minogue Park. The thing I enjoyed the most and the thing I am most proud of is how I came first equal with my friend Mania. Something I found really hard was the environment we had to run in because it was very hilly. I really enjoyed Cross Country and I can't wait till inter-schools!

Personification

The Old Place
The wallpaper slowly peeled itself apart,
As the chair reads newspaper with a broken heart.

It's mean old owners left it to rot,
So it never moves just sits on the spot.

The room full of holes has lost's strength,
As it has aged a great big length.

The street outside laughs at the poor old room,
As it wishes itself was young and bloom.

However hard the grey room tries,
It will never stop as it slowly dies.

Links to Learning - Model of Writing I used

Air raid shelters, damp and black
Bombs exploding, back to back
Children crying, adults too
Down the cellar – after you"
Evacuees on the train
Farewells said in pouring rain
Gone to live in some strange place
Hoping for a friendly face.

In the city, parents wait
Just to hear of their child’s fate
Knowing that they have arrived
Leaves them thankful they’ve survived
Memories now not theirs to make
No hugs or kisses; birthday cake.
Only painful loss is theirs
Parting sorrow, daily prayers.

Quick to jar them from their pity:
Raids repeating on the city.
Sirens screeching, chaos calls,
Thunderous noise as buildings fall.
Underground : imaginations,
Violent earth reverberations.
Why oh Why? Despair abounds.
e
Xit all, as fear resounds…..

Yesterday for now is gone
Zeal for life and peace lives on.

Writers Club Story With David St School

This term writers club is using google drive to write a story with David St School. We decided it would be cool to try something new for writers club. I am looking forward to working with Leah (my David St School buddy) and using google drive because I have never used it before. My story is based on the photo below. It is a normal tunnel that goes into the mountain or is it? The Ottoman family are cruising around on holiday. They find the tunnel and enter it but the have no idea what the tunnel is and what it can do. The story is about the Ottoman family and how their life changes and how they live in Windle Land. I can't wait to start my story!

Term 2 Reflection

My favourite thing that happened in Term 2 was the jump jam leadership course and the first aid course. I really enjoyed them and I learnt so much stuff. The most challenging thing I had to do this term was how I had to get up at 6 am to get my planet project in on time. One of the most important things I learnt was that in July 2015 a spacecraft is going to fly past Pluto and rake pictures of it. It will be really cool to see what Pluto really looks like. The thing I am mostly looking forward to next term is speeches because I can't wait to lean new things about the topic.

Space Dave

Last week a visitor came into school. He is called Space Dave. Three things I learnt is that a planet is in a solar system a solar system is in a Galaxy and a Galaxy is part of a universe, that in 5 billion years another Galaxy will collide with our Galaxy and that black holes could suck in a solar system.

Our Special Visitor

On Monday last week we had a very special visitor. He is called Doug Wilson. For those who don't know Doug Wilson is an author who has published many books and series. He was thinking of writing a book about Room 14 (my class) and wanted to know a cool nickname he could call us. I think a good nickname he could call me is Ivory because I'm always smiling (my dad came up with it).

The Blobfish

Have you ever heard of the Blobfish? The Blobfish was voted the ugliest animal in the world!
This deep sea fish lives on the coasts of Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. When I say it is a deep sea fish I mean it because they can live at depths between 600 and 1,200 m deep!
Many scientists now fear that the Blobfish could become endangered because of deep-ocean trawling.
The Blobfish's scientific name is psychrolutes marcidus. To be honest with you I think that there are way uglier animals than this!

Jump Jam Workshop

Yesterday Morning Bret Farewheather came into school to do a leadership course. There were about five other schools that did it with us but they all had to come to our school. My favourite part was watching all of the other schools do jump jam and also learning the different steps to looking better while you do jump jam along with being confident. In case you don't know who Bret Fareweather is he is the person who is on all of the jump jam DVD's. I loved doing the workshop and would like to do it again sometime.

My Alphabet Poem

Amazing adventures were the soldiers last thoughts,
But when they arrived all they did was fought.
Cries of help were among them all,
Dangerous challenges were growing far too tall.
Excited faces were disappearing,
Firing cannons were reappearing.
Gun powder drifting through the air,
Horrid screams were everywhere.
In the distance a whistle blew,
Jumping bullets where firing through.
Knowing they may not survive,
their Limbs shaking with deadly frostbite.
Many days fly by,
No sign of delicious kai.
Oh how the soldiers wished they were home,
Precious memories were engraved in their bones.
Questions about what to do,
Reaching soldiers through and through.
Searching for a won war,
The biggest challenges come aboard.
Underneath all the thick gooey mud,
Victory will be made with a great big thud.
Wet whether came and never went,
eXit of trenches were never spent.
Yesterday for now is gone,
Zeal for life goes on and on.

ANZAC Day

On the 25th of April it was ANZAC Day. I went along to the ceremony near Victoria Bridge. My school was laying a wreath to remember the ANZACs and the sacrifices they made. All the school councillors went along. At the ceremony the Mayor (Julie Hardaker) said a speech about this years ANZAC Day and how it is the 99th anniversary since the ANZACs fought. It wasn't just Julie that said a speech though, there were speeches from people that fought in 1915, people that had important family members that made a sacrifice at war and heaps more. We also sang the NZ national anthem, the Australia national anthem and a hymn from the bible (Abide With me). There was also a minute of silence and a firing of a minute gun. My dad played in the band that was there. The band marched over Victoria Bridge and joined the ceremony. I wasn't just our school that played a wreath though there were three sheets worth of names that were laying them. I can't wait till next year's ceremony because it will be the 100th anniversary!

My ANZAC poem

Dear Merry
My shaking limbs,
Are being attacked by the rats around me.
Whenever I peep out of the muddy trenches,
I hear the whistle of bullets narrowly missing my head.
As I climb the sand dunes,
I can smell the air and smoke,
Growing thicker and thicker.
I can taste the salty rain,
Washing my blood and sweat into my dry mouth.
I see the deep trenches,
Slowly turning into a sea of mud with the rain.
As I touch the mud around me,
The tips of my fingers go numb with frost bite.
So much for an exciting adventure.
I will miss you.
Love, William

My Name art

This is a picture of my name art. To be successful with it is meant to make a kaleidoscope effect. I think I have created a kaleidoscope effect. Can you figure out how to read my name in this picture?

The Cyber Safety Show

Last week two ladies came to our school to perform a show to the senior syndicate on cyber safety. It was really funny and I enjoyed it alot.I learnt that cyber safety is being safe on the Internet for example facebook and twitter. I also learnt that cyber bullying can harm you more than face to face bulling because cyber bullying hurts your emotions. My favourite part of the show was how the ladies kept on changing character and voice because some of the characters were really funny.
