ANZAC Day
On the 25th of April it was ANZAC Day. I went along to the ceremony near Victoria Bridge. My school was laying a wreath to remember the ANZACs and the sacrifices they made. All the school councillors went along. At the ceremony the Mayor (Julie Hardaker) said a speech about this years ANZAC Day and how it is the 99th anniversary since the ANZACs fought. It wasn't just Julie that said a speech though, there were speeches from people that fought in 1915, people that had important family members that made a sacrifice at war and heaps more. We also sang the NZ national anthem, the Australia national anthem and a hymn from the bible (Abide With me). There was also a minute of silence and a firing of a minute gun. My dad played in the band that was there. The band marched over Victoria Bridge and joined the ceremony. I wasn't just our school that played a wreath though there were three sheets worth of names that were laying them. I can't wait till next year's ceremony because it will be the 100th anniversary!
